She Is Me

February 6, 2019

She is lovely.

She walks with grace, and she walks in beauty.

She isn't glamorous. Nor is she elegant. Her closet contains a few dresses and a couple pairs of heels, but mostly, she spends her days barefoot and in blue-jeans. She is simple and un-embellished. She often forgoes make-up because she simply can't be bothered. But,

She wears an easy smile. It's always there, lurking just below the surface, waiting for an opportunity to make another appearance; ready to brighten a moment in an otherwise, ordinary day.

She is carefree and straightforward. She delights in unabashed transparency and uncomplicated honesty. She sees what is, but she also sees what could be.

She is reflective and thoughtful. She covets solitude and yet,

She also thrives in community.  She is fun-loving and silly; sometimes a little too crazy, but she will always be young at heart.

She laughs easily and without abandon. She sometimes wonders though, if perhaps she laughs too loud, and for too long.

She is acutely aware you see, of her many imperfections; her shortcomings. She looks at the women around her and wonders why she can't seem to keep up with them. Some of them, in addition to raising children, are working moms. How do they do it? How do they keep up with it all? Being a wife, a mother, and a holding a career at the same time? She is merely a homemaker, and try as she might, she can't seem to get ahead. She is over-run with babies; toddlers; teenagers. And with laundry. There is always another meal to cook. There are always more dishes in the sink; toilets to be scrubbed; floors to be mopped. She forgets appointments. She loses her keys; and the grocery list. She lets her car run out of gas. She wishes she could get it together. She thinks she is failing. She second guesses herself. She makes mistakes; too many of them, it seems.

She wants to be a better wife. And a better mother. But too often, she feels like she doesn't have enough. She is dropping all of the balls. She is worn. There are days when she stands in the shower, simply so that she can weep without being seen or heard.

She is tired.

She is tender, and she feels things deeply. She wears her heart on her sleeve. And yet, she is afraid of vulnerability; afraid to be seen for who she really is.

She has been hurt. That deep kind of soul wrenching hurt, that nearly breaks you in two. But thankfully,

She knows how to forgive. She is good at forgiveness. She has been given lots of opportunity to practice it. But more than that even, she knows that she herself has been forgiven. Forgiven of much. Forgiven of everything. And because of this,

She also knows how to love. Really love. Her husband. Her children. Her family and her friends. Strangers even. Though she is far from perfect, she loves without holding back; she gives the kind of love that reaches into your heart and fills you up so much that it runs over, and spills out. She can love like this, because she is loved herself; by Love Himself.

She knows how to listen. Not just with her ears, but with her heart. Her door, her home is always open. Her table is available and the coffee is just minutes away. Her heart is soft, and it is always ready. She is compassionate. She will cry with you. Pray with you. Rejoice with you. She cares about the things you care about. You matter to her; your hurts; your brokenness; your dreams. She's been there, where you are now.

She too, has dreams. Big dreams. Good dreams. Dreams of becoming something more than she already is. And she too, is afraid to fail; afraid to try. She thinks she may not be smart enough. Or good enough. Or brave enough.

She believes she simply isn't enough. But,

She is wrong.

She is the entire world to her children. She is the sun, moon and stars in the eyes of her husband. She is a faithful friend, a wonderful daughter, and an adored sister. She is loved more than there are grains of sand at the sea.

She is good and kind; authentic and true. She seeks justice, she loves mercy, and she strives to walk humbly.

She is light in the darkness. And above all,

She is fearfully and wonderfully made. She is of infinite value; a precious jewel in her Father's crown; sought after; bought and paid for at the highest price.

She is enough.

She is more than enough.

She is you.

She is me.

She is us.
