Day 3 Simplify Challenge-Accessories and Cosmetics

Simplify Accessories and cosmetics

Welcome back, ladies!

Being that you're here again today,

you're obviously serious about transitioning your life to simplicity.

And my friends?

I'm just so pleased!

And, I'm so proud of you for making the choice to follow through with the process, and for doing the hard things!

Yay you!

As I said in yesterday's post, digging through my closet was a little bit difficult for me.

I also found it slightly painful getting rid of some of the items in my dresser drawers on day one.

I just kept thinking,

"What if want this later on?"

"What if I regret getting rid of this?"

"What if I actually NEED this one day?"

Strangely though, after it was done, I felt a whole lot better!

It was kind of like labor pains.....

All painful and gross as you go through the process,

but afterward, blissful and rewarding and so worth the effort!

Anyway, I was totally prepared for today to be difficult as well.

Surprisingly though, it wasn't.

I found it relatively easy.

But then,

I'm not really big into cosmetics and accessories, so......

Yup! That's where we're going today, girls!

Now, while I found this particular challenge relatively easy,

I do realize that this could be quite difficult for many of you.

Don't panic, ok?

You're going to be fine.

This is going to be good!

Great even!

Once you're done,

you're going to feel absolutely fantastic about this!

(Remember, it's just labor pains......)

Start with your cosmetics.

I can hear some of you panicking right now.

Breathe, girl friend......

Just breathe.

Throw out anything you have that's older than dirt.

You shouldn't keep anything that you've had for eons.

And throw out anything you just don't wear.

For me, lipsticks fit both of those categories.

organized cosmetics drawer

Lipsticks are pretty.

I like the idea of wearing lipstick.

I think women look beautiful in lipstick.

But, I just don't like to wear lipstick.

Like, not at all.

I feel weird wearing lipstick.

I don't feel like me.

So, I chucked every last one of them.

Every. One.

I didn't even keep one for a special occasion.

You know, like for, "date night"?

Really, I just don't feel like me in lipstick.

(I have decided though, that I'm going to purchase an organic tinted lip-gloss.

I like a tinted gloss.

And when I wear tinted gloss,

I still feel like me.......only fancier.)

Anyhow,

Purge, girls.

PURGE!

Get rid of what you don't wear.

Purging old cosmetics

Please don't expect that your cosmetics purge will look like mine, though.

(This is a small portion.)

Truly, I'm the basicest

(not a word, I know, but it's how I think and I write how I think)

of the basic when it comes to cosmetics.

While I don't wear eye-shadow,

(not even for "date-night")

You probably do.

And that is excellent!

Be sure to keep some pretty eye shadows!

Maybe just not "all" of them.

And, please know.....

I'm not here to tell you how many you should keep.

You and I are not the same.

Our priorities are different.

Maybe you love make-up, while I, on the other hand, don't.

Just get rid of as much as you can.

Not because I'm telling you too,

but because,

you want to simplify.

You are totally in control of what you keep and what you don't.

You will be the one to reap the benefits of,

or mourn the loss of,

whatever you decide to keep or toss.

Just keep in mind the reason you are doing this in the first place.

You're tired of the clutter.

You long for simplicity.

You will get out of this process, only what you put into it.

So, purge away!

Next, go through your jewelry.

creative jewelry storage

Did I hit a nerve here?

Sorry.

Darling, if you don't wear it,

please, do yourself a favor and get rid of it.

If it isn't contributing to you in any way,

then all it is, is clutter.

Donate it.

Sell it.

Give it away.

Just get it out of your house.

Like all of those single ear-rings you were hoping to find the mate too?

They're gone girls.

Just like the mismatched socks.

Just do it.

hair accessories

Go through your hair accessories as well.

You'll want to get rid of brushes and combs and curling irons

and really, everything that you don't use.

Toss old elastics and pins and honestly,

any type of hair accessory you don't wear.

Our last little category for today's purge is

belts and scarves.

If you don't wear them, they go.

If you wear them, then by all means, keep them.

Unless of course, you have a million of them.

If you have a million of them,

you should probably try to cut them down by half.

That being said, I do have to be honest here.

There is nothing like a scarf to change up an outfit.

I love them!

A lot.

So, I only got rid of three.

I kept most of mine because I wear them.

Not all of them all of the time,

but, enough so that I chose to keep them.

It's okay to keep what you actually wear.

Just, don't keep anything you don't wear, ok?

Alrighty girls!

That's it for today's challenge!

I know this could very possibly be a difficult day for you.

And I get it.

And I'm very sorry.

But, you are a strong and capable woman, and you can do this!

You can purge these items!

Just breathe through the labor!!!

And don't worry, I won't make you go through your shoes.........well, not today, anyway.

Now, take a deep breath, and dive in!

Don't forget to snap, and post a pic of everything you're de-cluttering today and we'll see you tomorrow!

Bracelet and Earrings Give away

For those of you taking part in the Simplify Challenge, I have a little give away for you!

This pretty bracelet and ear-rings set, were part of my donate pile. I love them, but I never wear them. So, instead of giving them to the local thrift store, I thought I'd do a draw for them!

They are from Ten Thousand Villages, a store that I absolutely love! According to Wikipedia, "Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit fair trade organization that markets handcrafted products made by disadvantaged artisans from more than 120 artisan groups in more than 35 countries." I love being able to support them!

If you'd like to be entered in the draw for this lovely set, all you need to do is comment on this picture on my Barefoot Warrior Facebook page, and post a pic of one of your purge piles! That's it!

Disclaimer: these ear-rings are being re-gifted and as such, have been worn a handful of times.

They have been dis-infected in alcohol.

holy homemaking.jpg

Your most important ministry Beloved, happens within the walls of your home. Homemaking is about so much more than cooking and cleaning and doing the laundry. While it does include those things, homemaking is also about creating a home atmosphere of peace and security. It is about cultivating a place where you and your loved ones can experience grace and forgiveness, and grow in relationship with Jesus.  Holiness & Hygge is really about holy homemaking. Because what better place is there for you and your family to experience and extend, the love of Jesus?
